I learned about cohousing while researching small homes in 2008 and immediately like the idea, with its social and cooperative aspects. I just didn't know of any communities near where I lived in southern New York. Over a year passed, and I spotted a poster for Belfast Cohousing while visiting family in Maine. One thing led to another, all fueled by the warmth, wisdom, diversity, and vision of those involved in the project.
I'm an outdoor fanatic and will enjoy living in a small community where everything I value is nearby. I particularly like hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking. I look forward to having friends nearby who share many of these interests, and who can help me resurrect some old ones put on the back burner long ago, such as music, gardening, cooking, and cross-country skiing.
